Clara Barton
Clara Barton was born in 1821 and started the Red Cross in 1822 when she was 11 years old. Clara started the red cross when she and her sisters, Dorothy and Sally, saw her brother David fall from the top of the barn while stacking hay. David was paralyzed and was unable to work on their farm for 2 years. Once that happend, David became Clara's patient and she also did all of her brother's work on the farm. Later on in life, Clara decided to join the Union Army to care for all the hurt soldiers. While she worked for the Union as a nurse she was called by her real name Clarisa Harlowe Barton. Clara was never married and died when she was 90, in 1912, in her h0me of Glenecvho, Maryland. She is known for her dedication to her occupations as a teacher, nurse, and humanitarian.
